Once we had our metro pass, we used it to go from the main island (Manhattan) to these 3 islands: Coney, Roosevelt, and Staten. In the process we got to ride the metro above ground, through the air, and on the water.
Coney Island
I can’t imagine what Coney Island looks like during the summer, but during the winter it kind of had a zombie apocalypse feel.
Roosevelt Island
When googling “things to do in NYC” I saw this Sky Tram and figured it was expensive, but it looked so cool that I investigated further. I found out that the tram is part of the metro system and that we could ride it free with our week pass. I thought it might have pretty views of the sunset, but didn’t expect the amazing views of the city. It felt like the Peter Pan ride at disneyland where you fly through the city. I loved it so much that I talked Skyler into going back and forth with me 3 times. When we got to the Island we took the public bus around the island for a quarter. It wasn’t as exciting, so we only took the bus once.
Staten Island
We didn’t actually explore Staten Island, I don’t actually know what there is to do there. We just did the tourist thing and rode the ferry there and back. On this particular day it was 19 degrees, which on a moving ferry probably feels closer to 2 degrees. We experience cold on a whole new level, but it’s crazy how the excitement of a tourist overpowers that.
